‘Business starts here‘ is the slogan that PACRA utilize, and in one way or another this is true, because one cannot conduct any kind of business in Zambia, without visiting and getting acquainted with PACRA’s requirements.
The Patents and Registration Agency (PACRA), is Government’s institution mandated to register any business formation in the country. The businesses of sole proprietorship, partnership and private limited company under which most SME’s register their businesses, are regulated by two pieces of legislation. The first is the Business Names Act 16 of 2011 and the second, the Companies Act No 388 of the Laws of Zambia.
The prescribed forms are available online from PACRA and the helpful and freindly staff at each of the centers in Lusaka (the Capital City), Chipata, Chinsali, Livingstone, Mongu, Ndola, Kasama and Solwezi are on hand to provide assistance. The process is simplified because the name reservation forms and business registration forms are all available on PACRA’s website. Applicant’s must provide the following details:-
- The proposed business name (three choices);
- The location of the business;
- The first and surname of the applicant including her National Registration Card (NRC) details;
- The financial year end of the business
- A minimum of two directors with their first and surnames including NRC details;
- Details of the Company Secretary;
- Articles of Association;
Once the registration form is duly completed, it must be filled in in duplicate and thereafter the Registrar will issue a receipt upon payment of the application fee and thereafter within 3-5 days, a registration certificate will be reproduced.
